The entire community of Command Secondary School, Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State was thrown into mourning on Monday when the lifeless body of the school’s Commandant, Colonel Anthony Okeyim was found lifeless in front of his official quarters within the premises.
The colonel, who was said to have been promoted to his new rank as a Brigadier General about three weeks ago, though not yet officially decorated, was reported to have been strangulated, after which his throat was slit open by his killers.

Confirming the story, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Adekunle Ajisebutu, a Superintendent of Police, said that the lifeless body of the late Colonel “who was gruesomely murdered by yet-to-be identified culprits” was seen in front of his official quarters at about 6.45a.m.
The PPRO stated further that the state Commissioner of Police, Sam Adegbuyi, the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division and other top police and military officers also visited the scene of the incident.
He added that the remains of the deceased were jointly examined by both police and military medical teams before they were deposited in the mortuary at Adeoyo Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan for autopsy.
Saying that the police commissioner assured that the culprits would be apprehended soon, Ajisebutu said that investigation into the murder was being carried out by the state police command.
Also, in a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Relations Department of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Timothy Antigha, he said that the police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the Colonel, whom he confirmed was the Commandant of the secondary school until his death.
“The headquarters, 2 Division, Nigerian Army regrets to announce the sudden death of Colonel A.E. Okeyim… The late officer was found lifeless in his house this morning. The Homicide Unit of the Nigeria Police in Oyo State is investigating the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident,” the statement read.
