The Akinrun in Council on Friday appealed to those harbouring displeasure over the recent appointment and installation of Oba Olamilekan Akadiri as the new Akinrun of Ikirun to embrace peace.
Immediately after then Prince Akadiri was announced as Akinrun, some aggrieved youths embarked on protest and made bonfires in some parts of the town.
But the statement made available on Friday by Akinrun-in-Council, a group comprising chiefs in the town, called on the indigenes to remain calm and support Oba Akadiri for Ikirun to record progress.
The chiefs said it was not abnormal to be aggrieved, especially when a particular expectation was not met, but noted that on no account should anyone resort to self-help.
The statement read in parts, “The Akirun-In- Council of Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government of Osun State wishes to express our profound gratitudes to the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola and all other members of His cabinet having graciously confirmed and approved the appointment of the next Monarch to fill in the exalted vacant stool of Akirun of Ikirun.
“It’s worthy of note that the race for the throne became fiercely competitive and was keenly contested among the eligible Royal blood before the Noble Kingmakers, the only body of wise men who has the statutory roles in the selection process of new King divinely selected Oba Yunus Olamilekan Akadiri (OYEWOLE IV) as the next Akirun of Ikirun among over 22 princes who were jostling for the throne.
“While we concede that It’s not abnormal to be aggrieved where a particular expectation failed to materialize to one’s favour, we however consider resorting to self-help as a means of settling scores very much avoidable and abhorrent. It is on that note we call for the promotion of calmness, harmony and tranquility such that the wise and industrious people are reputed for.”
